Dear TFC friends

OK we had a good flight from Johannesburg to Kruger Mpumalanga and then on to Mozambique landing in Maputo. That used to be Lourenzo Marques in Portuguese East Africa in the old days.

Our thanks to Attila in FAJS tower who sent us on our way. I hope you enjoyed your safari in the best game park in Africa at the world famous Kruger National Park.

It’s an extraordinary place of wild natural beauty and wild animals where the rules of the jungle prevail. There are wonderful comfortable places to stay in the park.

Now it’s on to the next leg of our – Safari! In a southwestward direction to Durban. Durban is the largest port city in South Africa as it is closest to the hub of industry which is Johannesburg 500 miles away. It has a wonderful natural harbor (third busiest in the Southern Hemisphere) and miles of golden sand. Durban is subtropical with warm humid summers not unlike our own but with massive thunderstorms to cool the air.

It is twinned with Eilat. It is the capital of Natal province and the third largest city in South Africa and the largest city on the East Coast of African continent. The main ethnic group are Zulus, but it also has the largest population of Indians outside India. Just to the north of Durban along the coast is the wonderful seaside holiday resort of Umhlanga Rocks (pronounced Umshlanga). Stay at the Oyster Box or Beverly Hills.

Your route is about 320 miles and will take you along UG 657 and then UG10. Your routing is FQMA TONKA VMS GERAX APGAP APMAT TGV to FALE.

FALE is King Shaka International and is only two years old. It lies 35 miles North East of the city. It replaces the old airport at FADN. Please note that FALE is not in Flight Commander even with a Navigraph upgrade. But it is certainly in your PMDG FMC so you can use that.

Also the charts can be found at http://www.caa.co.za/resource%20center/ ... /Index.htm I wish we had better scenery because South Africa has some of the very best in the world. After Durban you will see what I mean because we are going to go along the famous Garden Route. Please try and get pictures of these places and look at your atlas as well.
