The snag is, that there is a fair likelihood of the first generation cards turning out crap. Add to this the time it takes for prices to drop a little and that waiting period might drag even longer This is my biggest issue with fsx - it should run decently out of the box! having to spend litteraly THOUSENDS of dollars, just to get an acceptable performance is simply outrageous, especially if you condiser the official "minimal requirements" I , for one, am not willing to pay so much for high-res textures - lovely as they might be. but then again, to each his own......

This is the best piece of information I read so far as for what is needed, in terms of hardware, for running FS-X at a reasonable performance. It is clear, strait forward and explains, in simple terms, what each component does for running your FS-X. I was among the lucky ones who got the last beta version from MS (for testing the compatibility of Israel’s FS-2004 sceneries with the new simulator) and therefore I was able to see how FS-X runs on my recently bought PC Here are the specs of the machine. As you can see they are, more or less, matching the recommendations of Excitingsimulation PDF document. Please note that I am running 3 monitors on one PC; Motherboard - ASUS A8N32-SLI DELUXE - (nForce4 SLI) - ATX CPU - AMD Athlon 64 (3700+) San Diego - (939 Pin) Two Memories - 1GB Samsung DDR PC3200/400 each. Total 2 GB Two PCI-Express video cards – ASUS - EN7900GT 256MB 2DHT DDR - PCX HDD - WD 200GB-8MB JD - 7200RPM S-ATA II HDD - WD 80GB-8MB JD - 7200RPM S-ATA II Case - Thermaltake Middle Tower – aluminum Armor-Jr Middle Tower - Silver, with 680 W power supply. For example, I saw yesterday on Avsim a new upload that replaces the 1024 textures with 512 ones It is the same story as FS-2002\FS-2004. I still remember people say it will take 2 years for the new sim to replace the old one. In reality it took 3-4 months

You have a dream machine and I am not surprised that it "runs as well as FS2004". I imagine that you forgot to say that it is also 100 times more beautiful and sophisticated than FS2004 too, especialy with those killer graphic cards! Have lots of fun with the new "monster" :-)

The target audience is everyone who considers doing any kind of upgrade for running FSX better regardless of "when". The information is updated for the foreseeable future of course, but I plan to maintain the document to be up to date with the latest technology - and that means that I will probably do so once every 6 months - unless I find a critical mistake in teh table, etc. BTW, the link is not valid anymore for reasons that will be obvious later on. An updated link will be posted in the near future.

lalex פורסם נובמבר 9, 2006 מחבר דיווח פורסם נובמבר 9, 2006 Raz, At the time I explained why unfortunately I cannot write in Hebrew: all my PCs have only the WinXP Pro US version due to compatibility concerns with the International version (which includes teh Hebrew version). Anyway, the document that I prepared is written in English because a totally different reasons: - people in our hobby and definitely those who fly real plans or surf teh Net should know English at a reasonable level. - The document was written with the intention to help as many people (not only VATIL members) and I surely don't intend to translate it and every update that I plan to do, after spending my family time writing it in the first place - The document is only 18 pages long (not 50 as you claim). I know, I counted each and every page twice - it is an 18-page document. I recommend you read it instead of asking the same quesyions everybody asks (and get the same answers). Basically the purpose of the document is to have all the basic questions aswered before moving to more difficult issues. Anyway I hope that you'll find teh time and energy to invest in learning - even if the stuff is not in Hebrew.
