that's great! I might fire up tileproxy to see how it looks in the sim!

there's a new beta...didn't try it yet.....

This might be a worthy opportunity, once I have some time :)

well,

Apparently we'll need to wait a little.

Those extra areas are not introduced yet to google maps, so there is still that large patch of low-res textures. I guess it will take them a couple of days until they update the maps service (Tileproxy pulls the textures from the maps , not the GE servers)

err...not so sure.

I don't think its that flexible. I actually know the author had to make changes for the beta 6 in order to include a fourth provider (ask)

For Israel, as you know, only google (the most problematic) has hi-res photos.

I'll try to put in the GE URL (if I'll manage to find what it is) and see what happens, but I don't give it a great chance.

Either way, as I said, I do believe they'll update the map service soon so worst case scenario, we'll just need to wait a little longer

search the forum for "tileproxy" , this should clarify things for you

BTW, here's another program based on Tileproxy

http://www.fspassengers.com/forum/read. ... 634&t=4634

The main difference is that this one doesn't work online, but rather caches a pre-defined area first.

The advantage over Tileproxy in this case is obvious, you shouldn't get blurries if your download speed can't keep up with the speed your aircraft is moving through the scenery.

The drawback, I assume, is that if you wish to define a large area, you are going to get a scenery with a massive size

I didn't try it yet (or even gone through the the forum posts to get an initial impression), but its an interesting development for those who are interested in satellite-based photoscenery.

If anyone is going to give it a go, please report.

Well, as I expected the google map server had been updated with the new scans.

It takes a little modification to the ini file, and the latest map version can be uploaded to the sim. Here are a couple of shots I took from the Haifa area.

I forgot to flush some older cached scenery , so a bit of the older maps crept in, but still there's enough to get some impression:

tp3ok8.th.jpg

tp4jq0.th.jpg

Now for the bad news.....

Google have lowered their threshold for various "bots" and it tends to recognise TP as such. Consequently it blocks TP out which results in redirects timeouts and eventually tiles not loading.

To take those shots, I had to reset my IP twice. I can try and tweak the ini file to make it less "aggressive" but it won't be that simple as the threshold is really VERY low.

As an alternative, one can try downloading the tiles with the other software and compile it into a standard scenery. The downside to it is that its probably going to be several Gigabytes in size

ok,

good news on the FSWorldTile front..:)

I did a little experiment and compiled a strip that stretches from Haifa to Natanya.

Here are the results

tp1vm9.th.jpg

tp2cy7.th.jpg

tp3tf1.th.jpg

tp4ot3.th.jpg

tp5ec4.th.jpg

tp6up5.th.jpg

tp7xa0.th.jpg

Note that in some of the shots you can see the transition from the photoscenery to the FS scenery.

This chunk weighs about 13MB and it took me about 10-15 minutes to compile....

This is NOT Tileproxy, and the scenery is a static "standard" one i.e it has no problem with fast aircraft, and in fact requires no connection to the internet.

In its current version (this would be changed in the next ) the software is not capable of processing very large chunks, but there's nothing to stop one from compiling several adjacent areas to get a complete coverage of the country, I believe this should not take more than a few hours to accomplish.

yes

Not only that, for fsx you can configure "water mask" for better separation between land and water bodies (the water bodies will be those of FS not the photo)
