most comprehensive (and correct) sid/star database

Hi,

For an ongoing developement of a GPS gauge, we are examining various freely available databases.

The idea is, ofcourse to have one with as many airports as possible.

Currently we are contemplating the use of the FsNav database abd that of the PSS products.

is anyone familiar with some other DB we might be missing?

אני לא חושב ש FSNAV הוא דאטהבייס טוב ל-SID/STAR.

אבל קיים המאגר של DAFIF שהבחור שעושה את התהליכים של PMDG משתמש בו. הוא לא מלא, אבל הוא די מקיף ומאוד אמין.

אגב, לדעתי דווקא ה-GPS שלכם (שהוא מצויין, אגב, שיחקתי בו בסוף השבוע על ה-172 של F1, מתאים בול) צריך דאטהבייס מקיף של שדות קטנים ולא רק של כל השדות הגדולים ש 767 יכול לנחות בהם...

שאלה בנושא - שמתי לב שהמפה שלו מראה קו בין הנקודות, אבל אני לא רואה את איזורי ה-AIRSPACE השונים - האם זה מצב ה-GPS כרגע או שפשוט אין לי את הגירסא האחרונה (מצטער, קשה לי עם האתר ברוסית...).

Thanks for the suggestion, we'll contact T. Yingling and we'll see what can be done.

The format of the PIC database is somewhat tricky, but that can be managed. the problem is, that the file available over at navdata contains only 84 airports. or an I overlooking sonething?

I'm more inclined towards the PSS DB as it seems to be the most comprehensive, more than 1500 APs but I may be missing here something - perhaps I'm wrong to be impressed with that number.

as for your questins:

if you can get the external waypoints (those that come from the FsNav intersection database), then you have the latest version

Airspace boundries are not drawn by the real thing either, what you do get is aa warning advisory .

This is NOT implemented in the current version, and to be honost , is not in the planning either - but due to the nature of this project, its not out of the question to have it done sometime in the future.

As a sidenote - my russian is far (and I mean realy far) from perfection...

those online translators can make miricles, ias a matter of fact, the original manual for the Tu-154 was mainly based on them....

Thanks for the comprehensive answer.

If PSS has a more complete database, I don't think there's any doubt...

In 2 I meant that since the KLN90 GPS is also suitable for smaller aircraft (in contrast to say a collins FMS) it's important that it has smaller fields in it's procedure database.

Hello Michael,

one of the things to look at when selecting a database is the commonality with existing ones, which are both currently updated and would not require one more database on the computer. PSS use theirs also for the Bombardier Dash8 which makes it suitable for GA.

If you for some reason decide in favor of the 767PIC database, I have one from Icelandair VA which has a huge number of airports, (takes 25 minutes to install).

הערה שלא ממש קשורה לפה, אבל בגלל שיש פה הרבה תגובות באנגלית....

אתם יכולים לסדר שבהודעה שלכם היישור יהיה שמאלה ולא ימינה ע"י כתיבה של קוד בHTML לפני ואחרי החלק אותו אתם רוצים לכתוב.

לדוגמא:

 - זה אומר לו לעשות יישור שמאלה וכיוון טקסט LEFT TO RIGHT.

Further to Opher's notice - PIC's database is used by PMDG too, so it's ok on the commonality side as well as it is used my a major addon anyway.
