Dear Friends, With great sadness I bring you the news of the sudden passing away of our dear friend and VATIL member - Seev Kahan. His close friend Alon Smolarsky asked me to post this note here so that those of you who felt close to him and feel the need to pay homage to a guy who not only added his talent to the benefit of our community, but also helped with advice and made everything possible to further the message of a peaceful and desirable Israel worldwide. He went in peace, without any unnecessary pain and suffering and for that we all should be thankful. The burial service is at the Gderot Cemetery, tomorrow April 10th at 18:00. This is how he would have wanted us to remember him:

Hi, Sorry to disappoint but that table is pure BULLSHIT (sorry for my French). That guy (with the table) obviously has no clue whatsoever about FS or FSX and his "recommended setups" are really stupid. Why am I so angry? Because of that table people have been wasting their time hoping that FSX will run significantly faster. Of course that is not true! The guy who wrote those recommendations, thanks that FSX is come kind of Doom or F.ZE.A.R. game which rely heavily on the graphics card. I am 100% sure that he didn;t even bother to check what he writes there, otherwise he would have noticed that his advice does not help anyone! Don;t waste your time looking for miracle cures for FSX fps problem. There is only one solution to this: 1. a DX10/Vista patch from ACES (promised but no commitment when) 2. BUY A NEW CRAZY PC Now I cooled off and going back to play with my FSX :-)

Hi guys. This one is a bit different. I have visited the website of a fellow flight simmer and extremely talented aircraft designer, following a normal link from AVSIM . http://www.lionheartcreations.com/index.html Please visit this site and read the first paragraph "Pray for Israel". The guy is not Jewish but is a true friend of Israel and is not "ashamed" of it - he puts it up for everybody to see. Needless to say that we need all the friends we can so IMHO it would be a very nice thing to email him at william@lionheartcreations.com and say a sincere "thank you" from Israel :-). Hi Michael, Thanks for the compliments! I have also thought of adding more situations but then I remembered tat the whole point is to allow people to COMPARE results and not gauge their own PC performance. I have added the "Automatic" column to test the values that FSX decided upon at install time. )you can reach them by pressing reset" in each Settings Tab. I have also tested my "optimal settings" which I've reached after meddling with the sliders for about one week. I was surprised how uniform the fps can get if you are patient and know what you're doing. After that step, each and every "dirty" tweak can only improve the situation. Anyway enjoy and if you did take the benchmark, post the results. I am surely very interested to see how other HW performs with FSX.

There is an updated Benchmark version at: http://www.excitingsimulations.com/FSX/ ... 01-v11.zip The changes: 1. I found a "bug" in the Mountain Flying 01 save. It does not influence the benchmark, but I corrected it nevertheless. 2. I added the "Automatic" column allowing for benchmarking for the FSX automatic "optimized/default" settings - the ones which are estimated as being the "best" based on your system's specs. You will be surprised when you check those against the other settings. 3. I added the benchmark results of my system, as an example on how the Benchmark results form should be filled in. Have fun.

Hi Dan, I am happy that you like it. It is of course possible to do a benchmark for the Demo but I don't see why. First, the demo does not have the wild variation in scenery that we have with teh full version so what exactly will you compare? Second, people start moaning about FSX being too slow once they get to fly around NYC etc. which we don't have in teh Demo. IMHO nobody will use that. I actually don't believe that many will use the current Benchmarks. It is much easier to say "FSX/MS SUX" than actually work, learn and understand what goes on behind FSX. Anyway, enjoy Incidentally I've just finished doing the benchmarks on my system. You can d/l it here and examine teh results. Hi, I have prepared a set of "tools" that hopefully will allow all of us measure and compare FSX performance under a common denominator. Please make sure you read the READ-ME content thoroughly before jumping in the benchmarking process. This might save you some time and frustration later on, and also help you understand what I'm trying to achieve here. I am in the process in performing the benchmark myself and hope to be able to publish the results of my system later today. I kindly suggest that if you decide to join this common benchmarking initiative, you post the results in this thread. I understand and almost expect to be flamed and/or generally disagreed with by some members of the community. I am fine with that, but in any case, I would appreciate if you would do that in a separate thread - keep this thread "clean" please. Thank you.

I like all the ideas that were raised here. In order to limit the "balagan", we can all pre-order and then see how many units should be manufactured, take price proposals and then pay with the pre-order money. The only problem I see is shipment.

Then , games must be written to support DX10. Other games will be running DX9 and not benefit from the DX10 speed etc. Microsoft will release a patch to make FSX DX10 cmpatible. Raz, At the time I explained why unfortunately I cannot write in Hebrew: all my PCs have only the WinXP Pro US version due to compatibility concerns with the International version (which includes teh Hebrew version). Anyway, the document that I prepared is written in English because a totally different reasons: - people in our hobby and definitely those who fly real plans or surf teh Net should know English at a reasonable level. - The document was written with the intention to help as many people (not only VATIL members) and I surely don't intend to translate it and every update that I plan to do, after spending my family time writing it in the first place - The document is only 18 pages long (not 50 as you claim). I know, I counted each and every page twice - it is an 18-page document. I recommend you read it instead of asking the same quesyions everybody asks (and get the same answers). Basically the purpose of the document is to have all the basic questions aswered before moving to more difficult issues. Anyway I hope that you'll find teh time and energy to invest in learning - even if the stuff is not in Hebrew.

Tough I am assuming that the target audience of an upgrade guide are the ones who intend to do so in the near future and not a year or 18 months from now - hence my additional remarks Not really. The target audience is everyone who considers doing any kind of upgrade for running FSX better regardless of "when". The information is updated for the foreseeable future of course, but I plan to maintain the document to be up to date with the latest technology - and that means that I will probably do so once every 6 months - unless I find a critical mistake in teh table, etc. BTW, the link is not valid anymore for reasons that will be obvious later on. An updated link will be posted in the near future.
