  1. Yes, he mentions the help he got from VATIL and if I remember well, he also mentions your name related to teh translation of certain maps :-) Yes, we need to help anyone who tries to learn about Israel.
  2. I am sure that the article is protected by copyright so I am not sure that I will do that. I have to think about it and discuss the issue with VATIL stuff.
  3. If you read carefully, in the thread that I opened then I asked if somebody knows anything about a "future" article that was announced in the previous issue of Computer Pilot. This time I am reporting about the article itself which was already published - not quite the same subject I would say.

    Israel 12 Points

Hi all, I am holding a copy of Computer Pilot and reading an article called "Free Flying in Israel" by Dr. David Wilson-Okamura. Dr. Okamura is discussing VFR/CVFR flying in Israel and covers all the addons, paying special tribute to all the scenery designers who have been covering Israel . Yes, Seev, Ido, Nir, David and yours truly are specifically named there, together with their contributions. Dr. Okamura says that: "I would like to say "the screenshots speak for themselves" but they don't: the scale is too large and the cratmaship too fine." and so on... He also thanks VATIL et. for the help ot provided for understanding issues related to flying in Israel + mapping advices, etc. The article also provides valuable insight regarding the topography, geography and some light, flight-related geo-political facts about Israel. After reading that article you really feel the urge to fire-up that MSFS and go "Free Flying Israel". What can I say? I am proud to be part of the VTIL community and also happy that at least in the FS virtual world, Israel received so many complements.

  6. yeah, well - G'mar Hatima Tova to everybody :-)
  7. LOL! Negev a suburb of TLV? I hope THAT never happens! We don't have enough open and unspoilt space right now. Unfortunately I think that you are right... in one, max 2 generations, Israel will be one happy coastal city (named HANTABA - Haifa, Natania, Tel-Aviv, Ashdo Beer-Sheba and Ashkelon) with Jerusalem as an enclave... unless we do not "invade" the sea-shore and reduce it to a big chunk of expensive and polluting high-profile residential and business island. Bah! Enough of this. After all, we still control our virtual world :-).
  8. This is just at the top of www.simflight.com news: " brand new development has just been brought to our attention by Airsim.net, simFlight's portuguese site: Jתlio Olivares is terminating an excellent new application based on Google Earth: it enables the visualisation of online flights in GE. As you can see in the images posted in this forum thread (it's in portuguese) it is able to show (an that is a treat in itself) current VATSIM and IVAO flights at the same time. Some other detaills have been implemented already like showing FIR's and and pop-up windows showing relevant flight information. This looks like an extremly promising development that should soon become available" It's too good to be true - I can't wait!
  9. Slightly OT: I remember that some time ago there were discussions about the highly unsafe configuration of 26 and 12. Modern airports have today parallel runways and NOT crossed ones like LLBG. All the crossing runways at major airports have been cancelled so it was about time we do too. No tears shed on this at my end. I can bet that the closing of 26 is a first step of building a new 12L runway - sooner or later :-). Food for thought.
  10. Cool! Very cool! I hope that VATIL etc. will be mentioned there as well.

    VFR Israel

Hi, On the latest issue of Computer Pilot, they preview the November issue topics. There is one which drew my attention: Israel VFR. This is what is says: "Fresh from the hop about the Hawaiian Islands, Dr. David heads to Israel to take keen simmers on another VFR flying adventure. The Flight simming hobby in Israel is surprisingly well maintained by a group of keen virtual pilots. Join the virtual tour next month [November]" "Dr. David" is Dr. David Wilson-Okamura, one of the Computer Pilot's reviewers, but I have no idea with whom he discussed VFR in Israel within our community - if at all. Any hints, ideas, inside information?
  12. David - please read everything: S L O W L Y. THIS IS A SCAM!
  13. Hi Guys, This is no funny joke anymore... unfortunately they stain Israel's name. See this video that they spread around: http://www.compu-technics.com/images/solar%20memory.WMV and that the name of the inventor is actually "Shimon Gendlin" from NY - "famous" for his "Gendlin Effect" which does not exist. Meanwhile blogs and forums around the Net are pointing to the fake Photo-Shopped pictures and other artifacts that make all this "Shimon Effect" thing nothing more than a VD-induced hallucination... It is interesting who is behind this lame joke and why is that thing "Made in Israel"...
  14. IMHO, we should also remove the various "degrees" based on how many messages somebody posted in the forum. This will definitely remove pointless and useless one-word posts which have no use and don't add anything to the value to the forum. I am sorry if somebody will lose the "ace" or whatever status after "working" so hard at it ;-), but doing so will re-focus and streamline the forum.
  15. I have a feeling that this is nothing but a Quantum hoax... Judging by their fab shots (looking more like a common Army shower room), the consumer-grade air conditioner you can see on the wall and of course the static-electricity-prone picnic chairs that they are using - it just looks like somebody wants to inflate somebody's garbage stocks or play a joke on the gurus. I know what a clean room looks like (at least at Intel in Jerusalem) and I can bet that the Atomic clean room is no cleaner than my bathroom (which is very clean BTW, but NOT like Intel's ). Actually I think that that is a picture of their cantina and that the guys in front of the oven are just preparing a pizza (or boiling "dim-sum"). And about their "Gendling Effect" - there are only 10 relevant hits on Google and all of them are linked to THEIR postings (and some suckers in other forums). Man, I would give these guys a Nobel if they were for real - but they are NOT. The "Gendlin Effect" simply does not exist - check with your Quantum Physics faculty or professor... sorry! BTW "gurus" - don't you think that Tom's Hardware, Extreme Tech etc. would have heard of this atomic thing and the gamer sections would have screamed for this technology? Wouldn't have Intel, AMD, Motorola, Toshiba etc. stocks plummented (unless they have scrambled to buy this thing in the first place)? And I really like their forward-looking picture from the future (CES 2006) showing off HP's stand - ROFL! Think people think! On the other hand, I really wish I was wrong, but I'm not :-D.
  16. CAE is a Canadian company which builds high fidelity full mission flight simulators (among other things). Other companies in that business are BAE (UK), Thales (France) and to a lesser extent, Evans&Sutherland (US). This specific movie is an ad of their Tropos Visual System (as you can see at the beginning of the movie). In order to have graphics like those , we definitely need a computer and graphics card which are not yet affordable for mortals like us.
  17. You're joking right? What about @51,000 hits and 3 great ones bringing you to www.newegg.com in about 2 minutes??? (BTW - the price there is $103 ;-) Google is NOT perfect but its just great in finding where to buy things - ANYWHERE!
  18. Why don't you do a Google search for computer shops in Manhattan and then search their stock for what you need. We are after all in the 21st century...
  19. ;-) I know that it is frustrating to discover that even the "greatest and latest" hardware can be brought to its knees by suitable software. It happens that the FS generation is one of the most CPU/GPU demanding application. PCs which can run databases and support huge networks at blazing speed will fail miserably under the code of MSFS. Based on the question, I am not sure that you have the right tools or training to fully understand why this can happen, but believe me, the people in this forum have spent tens of thousands of dollars over the years just to get acceptable frame-rates and graphics. Real life teaches us that only at the end of a particular MSFS generation, you can find the suitable (and affordable) hardware that can run it as it was intended to be run. There are MSFS users who refuse to buy the latest MSFS version and instead invest in hardware that can run their previous version at acceptable frame rates. I know people who still use FS2002 because of this reason. It is hard to accept but this is the truth. Many games cannot run acceptably even on high end machines. BTW, Pentium 3GHz is NOT the king of the hill anymore. Pentium Extreme and P 3.2GHZ or Dual Core or the new AMD 64Bit line (dual or single core) are. We are talking about many $$ down the line on the CPU and GPU alone, and I can guarantee you that FS2006 won't run acceptably with all the options cranked up on the best hardware which exists at launch time. After all, that's why you have all those sliders and options. You will need again and again to decide which features and/or eye candy you are willing to give up for acceptable frame rates.
  20. Guys, Reflection = double rendering. That means that the scenery is rendered twice - once for the "real" scenery and once for the reflection. This MAY be done more efficiently if MS would apply some sort of scenery rendering buffer and simply flip and cut the reflected view accordingly. In any case, this has serius performance impact and I can guarantee you that it will run well only on high-performance machines. Sorry - the days of teh Celeron are gone. Only P IV 3GHZ and AMD 64 4000 should apply. I hope that by the time FS10 is out, Nvidia and ATI will be able to implement Hardware Reflection, and MS will support it with DirectX 10 .
  21. LOL! You said it much better.
  22. Ben & Alex, Despite your hints, I actually read both threads before I posted - I only hoped that people would have read more carefully what I wrote. Alex - if you noticed I didn't refer to your poor choice of actions at all. I am not interested in discussing them and give you marks for how you do things around here. You should have noticed that I referred only to Ben's posting which laughed off the rights of ANY freeware author regarding his/her work (going to a "patents lawyer"???). Ben - regardless of ANY specific case (this one including) nobody has ANY right to do anything with one's work without his permission, unless it is in public domain. It is not permitted to modify one's copyrighted work (even a small bit) and re-distribute it (with credits or not), without the original author's express (not implied) permission. There are simply no attenuating circumstances and claiming otherwise shows only ignorance and/or malice. Copyright infringement is not "child's play" and defending one's rights is not "childish", as you suggested in your post and authors have the right to do whatever they like with their work without fear of being criticized. I know that in our country people are less educated regarding copyright rights and I feel that what is done to improve the situation is far from enough. Posting messages which potentially dismiss whatever we achieved regarding this subject is dangerous. Ben, answering to these claims should be made in public and not hidden in private messages. I don't know you personally and the post was not personal so no need for conversations in private messages. The subject is public, the message you conveyed was for the community - and so was mine.
  23. I haven't been active for some time and I don't think I will soon, due to pressing matters that I have to tend to (Ilan is updated about that). I read the forum once in a while in order not to lose touch completely with the community. I this case however I have to react to this post (even if Ilan closed the subject quite well) and will relate to freeware in general and not to this specific unfortunate case. And please "excuse my French": Your claims mister about "What is freeware" and why anybody is entitled to do whatever he/she chooses with a freeware work without asking for permission is pure CHUTZPAH and are dangerous for the freeware community! You have the chutzpah to laugh-off and dismiss a freware's author fight for his lawful rights as "whining"! Shame on you! I am also sick - I am sick of people trampling on the freeware authors' rights with impunity. Nobody has to go to a "patents lawyer" for preserving the copyright for his creation, especially when it is clear - like in this case -that the whole work is more significant than the modifications done to it. FYI, only work which is defined "public domain" is "free for all to do whatever". ANY other work IS PROTECTED BY THE COPYRIGHT LAW (locally and internationally) regardless whether the author said anything about his/her rights regarding the creation. As Ilan mentioned, in this case "not saying "yes" does NOT mean "yes" - it means "NO"". Furthermore if a challenge or a request for permission for anything is made, and not received, the asking person must show that he took EVERY POSSIBLE AND REASONABLE MEANS to ask for it. "The phone was busy" or "didn't receive a reply email" will simply NOT do in ANY court of law. I sincerely hope that your claims about freeware authors' level of rights over their work and what is allowed for others to do with it, stems from ignorance and not malice. Your "legal advice" or "opinion" should NOT be followed by any MATURE person anywhere. Attacking this forum members for defending the author's legal rights and claiming that they behave like 5 y/o, will not hide the fact that you have no clue about copyright issues. I invite you to invest hours at end into creating something for the community, for free, at the expense of quality time with your family and then see how you feel when you suddenly find your (slightly) modified work published without your permission, at best with a small mention about you in a readme file. If you claim that you would not care since that would be "immature" then don't assume and don't expect that others should give up their lawful rights over their creations just as easily as you do. All this comes form a freeware and commercial software developer for FS and other markets and believe me - I know a thing or two about copyright. I don't care if you will attack me personally - I had my share in the international community for defending my rights as a freeware developer and I ALWAYS WON since the law and common sense are on our side. I dealt with more sophisticated software/computer artwork plagiarisms over the years and I don't need anybody to tell me what rights software or artwork authors have. Think well before posting more dangerous claims that lead to ignorance and maybe despise for people who create for the enjoyment of the rest of the community, for free. If you want to continue this challenege, then you should go and check with a lawyer and then come back and tell us what he said. We'd need his name of course to see that that lawyer exists . If I was in your place I would have been ashamed to make the claims you made. Take a break and reflect on everything that has been said about this subject - believe me - you'll only be smarter.
