  1. You're wrong. Those who resort to pirated software will d so even if it costs half or quarter its price
  2. Nobody's a thief!! If you can't/don't want to afford it - don't get it....they are not forcing you to pay a single penny... Thieves are actually a part of the reason the prices are up - but they are not on PMDG's side of things.... There's simply no need to whine about it. You find it expensive or inappropriately priced? - Don't buy...

  4. This is very nice! It's a pity many of the scans have a colour hue, or they might have been used as a photoscenery source. I still think some areas e.g the coastal stretch up to Haifa , the area around Ashdod or maybe even that scan around Tel-Nof might be decent enough.
  5. If you're willing to pay a 100 for your 767, how come paying makes someone "Fu##ed up in their head"? Don't get me wrong, I'm not a huge fan of PMDG , and I think Opher nailed it with his description but their products are good and they are very thorough with them. My only beef with pmdg is they are ever so full of it. .. מיכאל, Dial a Flap ?? Dial a Flap is a rather simple idea, it basically means you can set your flaps to any angle you want rather than just fixed values like 5, 10 , 15 degrees etc. The problem is , that FS dynamics are not designed for it. They allow your flaps to move through "stations" only. In order to circumvent it you have to construct your own dynamics to run completely outside FS as a separate DLL. I don't know what PMDG did on the MD11, but that's how we've done it on the IL62 and I doubt they tackled it differently. We had to do something similar for a 4th strut, in-air reverse or stabilators (mobile stabilizers) and many more. FS dynamics definition files are a piece of crap that had not changed significantly since FS7 probably. It's light years behind X-Plane in that respect. Sorry..I did miss that line in your post... But, now its your turn..what are network gauges? Yeah, comes to think of it, it fairly sums up the difference between the US and Canada...in a nutshell

My only beef with pmdg is they are ever so full of it. @Matan I honestly believe them when they say that large chucks of it had to be re-written from scratch. It's not as simple as you tend to think!! If you're not willing to pay that much, don't buy, its as simple as that. Naming whatever price is their prerogative - you on the other hand can vote with your wallet. If I had any intention of using FSX I might have considered as I don't have the specific hardware "limitations" that Ran, for instance has. P.S Bet you they're going to hype their dial-a-flap feature on the MD11 as a first ever. We put it on the il62 two years ago, when they refused to believe that its possible...
  7. Amir, you have made a very good point. Where and how to do it will vary according to individual circumstances. Canada offers you a virtually guaranteed citizenship if you manage to scrape off enough points for CIC (what is it btw, 67?) If you can't, then you end up with a license that can't land you a job (no pun intended). The same applies to the US, with even greater question marks unless you have an American citizenship. So, you're absolutely right! It's not just where do I do it. Much more importantly is what can I do with it, once I'm done.
  8. Its a good idea. We have something similar on the PT forums and it seems to be working very well. Nothing to lose either. If it works well, then its everyone's gain, if not it could just as easily be scraped off - and no harm done
  9. Haha, The day I will be able to answer your question, I promise I'll invite you for dinner in Stockholm to celebrate my Nobel prize in physics (and being the first non-physicist to do so). If you'll happen to have transportation problem, I could send you my cow-fart engined business jet to pick you up. The whole cold fusion thing started with an experiment involving a simple electrolysis chamber inside a calorimeter. When heavy water (D2O) were electrolysed, the overall energy measured by the calorimeter was greater than expected, or that could be accounted for. The scientists were quick to assume, that the excess energy stemmed from a fusion reaction of the Deuterium atoms which were released as a result of the electrical hydrolysis. Similar experiments mostly failed to reproduce these results. Some flaws were found in the way the original experiment was designed and conducted, and no products or radiation that will attest to a nuclear fusion reaction was ever clearly demonstrated Most important, nobody could answer YOUR question and as much as I know, there's NOTHING in modern physics that can explain how or offer a testable mechanism to do so. Even the very few who still support the possibility of cold fusion admit they have no viable explanation as to how it can be possible. There are some ideas flying around on how cold fusion *might be* possible. All suggesting non "traditional" fusion and most are based on quantum mechanics, but when you get to quantum mechanics you're touching physics' twilight zone where parallel universes exists in 26 dimensions and things can be dead and alive at the same time If you know anyone who truly understands quantum physics - let me know So, I believe your chances of seeing a plane driven by a cow with a pipe shoved at its rear end, are somewhat greater than having a fusion cell engine in your Mazda 3 .
  10. I believe so. I believe that if you can get some job in the airfield where your flight-school is located, it should be OK, although its just an assumption At any rate, Amir might give you a more reliable answer
  11. To the best of my knowledge , people who stay here on a students visa (and for that matter flight school trainees are considered as such) ARE permitted to work during their stay. Michael, I did some reaserch on that subject for my girlfriend who will eventually be joining me in the USA. A student VISA allows the person to work ONLY on the campus of the institue that they are learning at. Its somthing, but VERY limiting. You're right! I checked it. They allow as you say "on campus" jobs or "practical training" which requires authorization and is supposed to be related to the field of study. Indeed, not too much to grasp at... Its much easier for an American to get a work permit in Canada, and vica-versa, although I'm not that familiar with the details *edit* This relates to Canada

When two atomic nuclei fuse together (to form a heavier nucleolus) a vast amount of energy is released . In fact the energy density of such a reaction is several fold greater than that of nuclear fission. You can see that sort of reaction in stars, and this is the principle behind the hydrogen bomb..... There's just one small problem.....To get this reaction started you'll need to put in a lot of energy to bring those nuclei together (being positively charged - atomic nuclei don't like to be together) This activation energy to start the process is delivered in the form of heat and pressure. In a hydrogen bomb for example its generated by a small atomic [fission] bomb which is part of the complex. Obviously you can't blow off atomic bombs if you wish to generate fusion reaction based electricity to light up Ramat-Gan..... Hence the need for some fusion reactor that would operate at room temperature. During the late 80s and early 90s a couple of scientists had brought forth a so called "fusion cell" where allegedly a fusion reaction takes place at room temperature and pressure. This of course had excited the scientific community but further experiments could not reproduce the claimed results and further research had yielded virtually nothing. *Edit* A small correction. I assumed for some reason that the Meridor invention revolved around cold fusion. I was wrong, but the principle remains the same - bombastic headline with little scientific grounds to support it.. For anyone looking for some amusement, here's the wiki entry on "Hamtsaat Meridor" : http://he.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D7%94%D7% ... 7%92%D7%9F
  14. Which is the third world country?? Take a guess... I'll give you a clue..its not in Africa
  15. South Africa or India?? One is a third world country the other a super advanced western state and a world leader in many fields of technology. I would certainty not look down on them....
  16. Cold fusion is still science fiction. I personally have not have heard anything about it since the "Meridor invention" (those of us who are old enough might recall what it was ... ) The predictions are that by 2010 oil prices will exceed 100$ a barrel. Alternative fuels (e.g gas or alcohol) can be seen occasionally , but they are no competition for oil, and probably will never be. Unless some breakthrough world-shaking technology is discovered, the world will keep relying on petrol as its chief energy source for many years to come.
  17. I know absolutely nothing about movie editing, yet a google search for "Movie maker alternative" yielded the following options: http://www.osalt.com/movie-make http://www.jahshaka.org/ I'm sure you can find more if you dig into it....
  18. Runway numbers are designated according to the MAGNETIC heading and the position of the magnetic poles changes over time Interesting, I wonder whether there are similar precedents in ports with a 2/20 runway AND whether this might not be a reason for confusion in itself

  20. Nothing to do with this particular product, but avsim reviews and objectivity have long been unrelated matters. Avsim reviews are nothing but hype for the most of it. They would depict any piece of garbage as a decent product and anything mediocre as the best thing since sliced bread. The product might very well be a good one, I'm not really familiar with it but I would check out their support forums for users responses rather than bite on anything they may try and feed you with at Avsim
To a limited extent post SP1. Some performance might be gained also through the handling of other processes (e.g OS) by multicore. So, there is some improvement but its a world away from true multicore support 3G. You gain an extra gig in terms of memory handling capacity, but how much of that is spent on vista alone? I believe that vistas minimal requirements are one gig ram. Don't know exactly how much is taken by the OS, but I'll assume that quite a bit so you'll need to subtract that for the true effective gain. Throw in the numerous addon compatibility issues that vista has and you're left with the conclusion that this OS is a pig that doesn't deliver the pork (my apologies to all kosher keepers).

  23. Izik, I don't share your optimism. On-line flyers are a minority among users. Most people don't use it for the reasons that were discussed here numerous times. Most developers are reluctant to go ahead because of the looming SP2 and DX10 patches that might force them to change their code. The SPs in themselves are basically a bluff. The gain in performance is achieved by taking a step back on quality. SP1 for example does that by blurring the scenery beyond a rather small radius, so you get to benefit the superior resolution only if you look straight down. Try looking ahead, as you normally would from a cockpit, and you'll get blurry scenery.... Do you think that what stopped people from moving on to FSX is the fact they can't go online with it?
Why 2014?? check out that image (the one in the centre, disregard the rest) This is 6cm/pixel - the highest resolution FSX can keep up with and about (!!) times better than what FS9 is capable of. Thing is, there are not too many places where such quality is available, and the size of such scenery would be very big:
  25. The Israel images from google are not that bad, but of course nowhere near the quality in the first photo I assume the resolution here is about 3-4m/pixel (my own rough estimate) which is good enough for FS9 (FS9 can't display anything higher than 4.75m/pixel), however, its all too poor to unleash the real power behind FSX
