  1. err...just curious....what's wrong with the original? //Michael
  2. Hi, for those who might be interested, an update for the "Project Tupolev" tu154-B2 has been released. The update mainly allows: 1) the full integration of the KLN90B wiithout losing joystick control over spoiler/flaps/gear 2) FSUIPC.dll is no longer required! in addition, improvements in: 1) weather dependant aircraft/surface friction modeling 2) further modification s of the flight dynamics (MTOW increased to 100 tons/ max. land. wt. to tons) 3) an upgrade for the RSBN beacon package. now receptoin distance is also altitude dependant. so, for those who are interested: http://www.protu-154.com/files_e.html //Michael
  3. - for those who are familiar with google earth... well, its also accesible through your browser perhaps its old news, but its new to me... anyway, cool little feature..IMO http://maps.google.com/maps?q=toronto&l ... &t=k&hl=en my home is somewhere in that pic //Michael
  4. Snow, what snow??! in canada??? i we have 35 deg celsius (yes celsius, not farenheit) now. seriously, I hear Calgary is a nice place. never been there myself Enjoy Alberta! //Michael
  5. Hi Gadi the second question is more easy look here: http://www.natroutes.glideslope.de/ some flightplanning utilities like FSbuild can download them too. as for your first question, well, your error may stem from various reasons. it may be a syntex error, its possible that the database does not contain the route you are attempting to punch in, or that your route doesn't contain the last waypoint (it doesn't "connect"). in any case, those are the most common reasons. If you want to get a more specific answer, you'll need to ask a more specific question be well //Michael

  7. Matan, not sure but as far as I remember most flights (both LY105 and AC 087) are at night, so its not gonna be easy to take a lot of photos. the weather here is more labile than in Israel, but right now its hot, very hot.... enjoy your stay! //Michael
  8. Learn russian??? There is a 168(!) page long ENGLISH manual, and a dedicated forum in english. most gauges have ENGLISH tooltips so you know exactly what they are..... True, some knowledge of russian alphabeth may be handy, but it s by far not a must. The fact is, that my russian remained that of a 3 years old....my age when I came to Israel, and that was more than 30 years ago... So, no, the language isn't the snag in this case. I admit that there are more people interested in Boeings and Airbuses than there are in Tupolevs or anything else(especially if its older steam-gauge technology) but as far as I can be objective, the level of sophistication for this package is on par with the latest top-notch payware. Also, its an ever evolving project (hey, we're freeware developers.... ) so the package is constantly updated currently on the agenda (under development or to be released soon) we have: a fully functional KLN90-b GPS system a dedicated TCAS more polished, "payware-like" bitmaps At any rate, if questions arise regarding the package, I'll be more than happy to provide answers best regards //Michael
  9. Originally planned as patch for Version 9.4, but now a spectacular update 9.5. with features not seen in FS before : In FS 2004, we have a great weather system with beautiful textures, but where are the important dangers of weather? Now we start to let you feel a new FS experience : - Weather dependent braking and friction coefficients. On wet, snowy and icy runways, don't waste a single meter of available runway at touchdown. There might be a siginificant increase in braking distance. Different thrust is needed to get the Tu-154 rolling in different weather conditions ! Heavy rain can cause a remarkable reduction in friction coefficient. - Temperature dependent engine performance. Better think before about safe takeoff and initial climb on a really hot day ! Above 30 deg Celsius it is necessary to limit the takeoff weight ! A new dimension of realistic flight planning and simulation !! Also in the update, a new and easier to handle Joystick device with more axes and button functionality, VC night textures, updated flight dynamics and cockpit sounds, revised manual and some little corrections. you'll need to have ver9.4 installed prior to installing the update http://www.protu-154.com/files_e.html
  10. For those who asked about a scenery similar to that of EDDW... there's LEPA, by the same auther , and it has all those things you'll find in EDDW. as far as I remember, it has several patches (those sceneries date back to FS2002 if not FS 2000...) so make sure you have them all... //Michael
  11. ok, we all know how good FS ATC is.... especially when it comes to approaches. For example an approach to LLBG RW30 woll probably vector me to a fix around H2/H3..... Now we also know that for some airports one can ask for an approach, ie, FS ATC will give clearence to the designated fix and will leave you alone from there to complete the approach without sending you to the other end of the world from what I know, such approaches can be written using xml and the SDK, but that is as far as my knowledge goes. I would be happy if someone can provide me with perhaps a more detailed explenation on how to go about it and maybe a couple of tips on how to write and compile such approaches Thanx!!
  12. ground receiver checkpoint is the second posibility that comes to mind. Hope you were not refering to a "dual" vor check.... .
  13. Eran, are you refering to VOT?
  14. well, you're right. if your kick is generating a flightplan by program X, loading it to addon Y, pressing two buttons and forgetting about the rest, then you won't get even past the APU start - and the addon is NOT for you! ! furthermore, you do not need award-winning dynamics (hey, why should one handfly when one can use an autopilot!) And whats allt that "magnetic heading"," true heading" waffle? surely us real pilots don't need any of that just give us a computer that flies a computer so we can all live happily ever after...
  15. Itai, Thats Erans point. So many here are sure that by pressing Vnav or Lvav they already know all there is to know about flying an aircraft. Not sure how many here had actually flown the real Mckoy, but if a n instructor is willing to share his knowledge - why not make an effort after all if they are not familiar with thae materia, the man is giving you an opportunity! I would have seized it to go a bit further than the "game" state
  16. yes, this is one if not the most, sofisticated freeware offering available. one thing to note, if you want to get it moving, you'll need to read the manual..... all 150 pages of it! AND perhaps a real opportunity for some to learn a thing or two about navigation The package has some groundbreaking features, and is a definite "must" in my opinion so, enjoy....its free here is Mike Ackermanns (the guy behind the docs) announcement on the release, taken from Avsims forum: I'm proud to announce our all new Project Tupolev Tu-154B2, Version 9.4., much improved to the old award winning 9.3. Version. It is available now at the FSNordic file library, look at http://files.fsnordic.net/new/ or at FlightSimulator/Aircraft/Airline Fleets/Siberia. I'll put some pictures in the Screenshot Forum later today. Here's our feature list already : Optics : - new state-of-the-art visual model - custom animations (extending/retracting landing lights, engine replenishment inlets) - 2D Panel with choice of standard and (soon after release) photorealistic bitmaps - Virtual cockpit - choice of VC and non-VC models, FS2002 and FS2004 models Liveries : - Siberia Airlines (RA-85492, RA-85556), Ural Airlines, KrasAir (in 9.4 Package) - more liveries (Aeroflot, SIAT-Sibaviatrans, Samara, Yakutia, Malev, Balkan, etc. ) soon after release 2D-Panel : - main panel plus 10 subpanels (Captains and Copilot Panel, Overhead panel, flight engineer panel, Autopilot panel, NVU navigation panel, Virtual Navigator, Checklist panel, KM-5, internal NVU calculator) - more than 60 authentic Russian gauges, almost 200 working switches, buttons, and knobs - special subpanel arrangement (incl. an in-flight overhead panel solution) to avoid outside view obstruction. - copilot panel with independent gauges. E.g. the Copilot HSI can be operated in different modes than the Captain HSI - optional multi monitor solution providing real gauge sizes on 19” monitors. Systems : - custom Joystick routines (bypassing standard FS joystick handling) to simulate hydraulically driven Jet - custom Autopilot simulating all functions of the real plane (Modes H, M, V, 3K, HBY, A3-I, A3-II, Zachod, Gliss), pitch and bank channel independenly operatable, realistic autopilot initialization procedure - custom autothrottle - authentic reverse thrust (only the two outer engines provide reverse thrust) - custom elevator trim routine - TRUE Center of Gravity simulation with manual and semi-automatic stabilizer handling - switchable nosewheel steering modes (10, 63 degrees) - TKS-P2 compass system with authentic gyro alignment procedure (MK, GPK modes) and system check procedures. - orthodromic NVU navigation system with RSBN correction and wind correction - Russian RSBN Navaids - VOR 1/2 navigation via A3-I and A3-II modes, two ADFs with backup frequencies - APU and electrical system - realistic engine start procedure on ground, dependent from outside temperature - inflight engine restart procedure - realistic fuel system with automatic and manual operation, fuel tank equalization unit, flowmeter check procedures - hydraulic system with three independent hydrosystems. The hydraulic system is not a dummy, the control surfaces and connected systems (boosters) will gradually fail in case of hydraulic pressure loss ! - electric driven pumps and hydrosystem crossfeed for hydraulic system ground checks - main landing gear extension/retraction incl. the neutral position, emergency and backup emergency landing gear extension, each dependent from connected hydrosystem - speed dependent engine autorotation (“windmilling”), keeps hydraulic pressure alive in case of engine failure, but only in certain speed range. - extendable/retractable landing/taxi lights - signal light system with 120 failure, warning and advisory lights Misc.: - Fuel Planner/Loadeditor with printable Loadsheet - Realistic cockpit and outside engine sounds and system sounds, more than 50 crew voice callouts. - MSRP Flight Data Recorder (Black Box), recording 95% of the parameters of the real plane - OCS Flight Data Analyser using graphical displays and checking violations to real limitations. - 150 page Russian manual AND 150 page english manual - optional I-21 Inertial Navigation system The flight dynamics, rated as "best airliner flight model and feel in the history of flight simulation" (review of Version 9.3. at the German Flightxpress magazine), have been further refined. CAUTION, steep learning curve. Careful reading of the manual is mandantory. Every detail is explained, down to translated checklists and voices ! If help is needed, our Forum at http://www.protu-154.com/forum has also an English and German section Also in the package you will find Siberia Airlines RA-85556, in memory to the crew and passengers lost in the awful tragedy over Rostov in August 2004. Michael
  17. hmm, its been there for the last week (since the 4th) unless this is something new.... and no, no problems observed here....
  18. it can be an interesting experience, but I have to disagree. I really do think its a sort of legalized scud-running as its sometimes refered to and you'll really have to know every inch of the terrain if you want to do it safely. I find them a tad scary, but than again I believe that it may be due to lack of experience on my side. At any rate, I'm yet to see one of them performed.
  19. ok, since no one is willing to take up the challange, Ill go ahead with the next one: if I understand the question correctly, then , yes. Visual approach can be a part of IFR. Moreover, visual approach is the MOST COMMON under IFR! provided you have the right conditions, both pilot and controller can ask for a visual approach with an IFR flight. if you have a minimum of 1000ft and 3 miles visibility ATC will confirm you have field in sight and than clear you to land (just like VFR) if we are on that issue: does anybody know whats a "composite flightplan" or , something you'll probably never get to do in real life: contact approach
  20. although less likely, induction ice CAN block the fuel intake of fuel injected aircraft so the answer to the first and original question is - YES basically, you may have ice formation on the filter and on bends in your induction system. This will also apply to pressure carburators, so nobody is fully immune induction icing is more common with IFR conditions, and visible moisture - to answer your second question actually we are talking here about the so-called "impact Ice" that forms as I said around bends, the air filter or impact tubes Don't know how much it is an issue in sunny florida... sure is a factor to consider if you intend to fly in my neighbourhood....
  21. Eran, not that familiar with the engine type iof the 172S, but fuel injection engines don't suffer from carb ice. the intake though may be a problem if its blocked(use alternate source) a good point to take in mind is that temp drops SHARPLY withein the carb's throat so carb ice can occur even at warm , humid weather conditions
  22. Sorry for the ignorance, but what/who exactly is IAS? Can someone provide a link perhaps Thanx!! //Michael
  23. Alex Hi! Thanx for the info!! perhaps a silly question, but - can it cause any compatibility problems with sceneries? //Michael
  24. Moshco, if you want to disarm the APP state recycle the flight directors I believe is should do the trick for you //Michael PS a workaround for the freezing sound/gauge (my bug #1) is to untick the "pause on task switch" option in FS. This bug was officially "acknowledged" by the developers and is to be fixed im the next SP
